Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic

We are not a first-day-first-show-watching-family. We are not even a movie going family. I remember, when I had gotten married to M, he said, “Don’t expect that I would, like a newly-wed, take you to cinema halls for movies.” Not that I had lost much with that because I did not use to go to cinema halls to watch movies anyway, though I used to be very fond of movies. Good old TV had been enough for me. So, like a good wife eager to impress, I said, “Yeah, its okay”. Later I realized that it was NOT okay. Because, I must say, I secretly resented him watching a movie with his gang and having the cheek to come home and tell me the story when I would ask him how it went. While I understood his concern of not exposing me to the smoking-jostling-pinching-leching motley male-crowd [as if I was the only desirable female around :)] at conventional cinema halls of a small city, I would feel bad at having been denied the opportunity to watch a movie on the big screen, even if for a justified reason.

He is, now, a changed man. His love for movies remains intact, and it has also now conveniently enveloped me and the kids. Wow, how come, you would say? Arrey bhai, what with the PVR cinemas with their plush interiors and luxurious ambiance – he would like to take us to movies every single day of the week. We three, me and the kids, act like spoiled brats and would never say no. At one point of time, during R’s exams last October, we saw two movies in a row. In a joint family, this becomes embarrassing sometimes, because the parents are not movie goers. The last movie they saw in a cinema hall after even-they-don’t-remember-when was Chak De, that too when we could sell it, through kids, to Daddy and Mama as a movie promoting hockey. But they know their son well, and hence just smile when they see us merely giving him company to the cinema hall. Ek Abla Naari aur uske Becharey Bachhey !!!

Oh my god, how I digress !!!

What I had started off with was to share that we went to see Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic today. And to think it had gotten released only yesterday. Kids had been looking forward to it. Though I would have preferred to watch Sarkar Raj, yet I, for their sake, said yes to watching it. And I am glad I did. It is such a cute movie. I guess 50 percent of the hall was populated by kids who went home happy after watching Rani play the angel. Her smile, her eyes, her impishness, all wield the magic. R liked her skirt. Normally she says a pre-paid ‘NO’ to long skirts. Saif, in the role of a hardened-heart, matter-of-fact-business tycoon, looks great; the four kids do their jobs well in their roles. I would recommend it to all the parents with kids to go watch it with the kids, the time spent with them in the cinema hall would be worth it.

And I would ask the kids in adults to go watch it – just so they come out of the cinema smiling. After all love alone is not enough, one needs a little bit of magic in life, even if the magic IS of love.

How guys change!... In our case, neither I nor my wife are keen on going to movies... though she catches up a lot on TV. I want to go to movie halls, but never make the effort to do it... Surely it's lot of fun. Enjoyed reading this. And, thanks for dropping by my blog.

All of you enjoyed the movie.
More so you have shared too the experience of cinema halls-poluted air with smoking....etc.

Good posting with family taste.

Keep it up!

LOL for the abla naaree bit:) Loved reading this post :)
You know there was a time I hated going to watch movies - this was before these Inox, Adlabs etc made it easier even for teenage girls to go and watch movies alone. Today we can drop our kids to watch a movie and lunch with their friends, without worrying about their being harassed. It seems the multiplexes have also helped in improving the quality of movies we get to watch now - they can make movies catering to a smaller urban audience also...and discover that EVERYONE loves movies like 'Rang De Basanti', 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Tare Zameen Par'.
BTW you have been TAGGED!

Interesting! I had been scared away after a couple of scathing reviews of this movie - but after hearing your point of view, it sounds fun. (There is a little kid inside me always jumping to get out!)

SS - :))

Sukh- Thanks, Kids vacations are a great fun.

Pradeep - M is very consistent, it was only to pull his leg. But yes arrival of PVR's has changed our movie going habits, no doubt.

Mama - Missed you.

IHM - you are absolutely right. And will do the tag happily. I m yet to do Devaki's tag too. But I guess this one coming by proxy from Devaki from you will be done earlier. :)

Devaki - It is a cute movie, no senti-menti cry-shry in it. A song - Lazy Lamhe has some bikini- shikini but then the end point of the song renders the dresses irrelevant anyway. Go ahead, indulge...

me and my hubby used to be regular (sometimes 2-3 movies a week.... night shows after work too :)) cinema hall goers but that was before Ojas (my son) was born... post that I have seen just one movie TZP leaving him with my mom so some hours... i guess it would be long before we can start going to movies again considering Ojas is just 7 months now....

hmmmm...movies...popcorn.....and lot of coothie cooing on the corner seats............college time was when we caught three movies in a day...just to be able to sit and hold hands through them in AC comfort.

Kaha gaye woh din??

We caught this movie too yesterday with our 4 year old & we really enjoyed it a lot. Unlike u, we are a very "regular" movie going family & like to catch all good movies in the first week itself.
:)

Monika-Exactly opposite to us. I saw my first movie with hubby after the birth of my first one. LOL. So much for the romance in the cinema hall.

Pinku-Alas, I had had NO such experience to fall back on. Too bad for me!!! But I promise to make up for that now, hehehe.

Monika-Thanks for visiting. Lucky you, for catching the movie in the first week. I plan to watch Sarkar Raj in case it is still around next Saturday.

Yeah I've heard the movie is good, but I'm not a great fan of Rani and if something's already categorized as Bachon ka movie I somehow loose interest in it. I knw, I knw i'm terrible and overtly grown-up :)

Personally I prefer watching movies on my computer's 19"lcd with the window curtains down and nobody to distract me but may be dats coz i dont have a family yet. :)
I bet watching the movie with your family excites you more than the movie itself. Isnt it?

Yeah sure u can link to me, infact its a privilege.

And normally I keep my computer on mute, but today my ear phones were plugged in cos I was listening to a lecture and then when I opened your blog, this gulzar's poetry comes into my ears sweetly sung. Thx for the wonderful collection, I loved it. Im a great fan of Gulzar's shaayari.

I liked your personalized review though I disliked the movie. I am a movie buff, I can't express how a disappointment in movie hurts. :(

I just wrote a review today:http://alchemistpoonam.wordpress.com/2008/07/01/movie-review-thoda-pyaar-thoda-magic/

P.S: You may not have gone to movie hall with your hubby, but even as a kid I did not enter a movie theater till I almost finished my school.

Mampi said...

Mav-You remember your post about that novel that you wrote in 6th grade? Still you want to say you are overtly grown? ;0
Glad you liked Gulzar.

Parry - It is definitely a great fun, especially when the kid, in the middle of a scene, asks you to accompany her to go pee pee. Then you wish you were watching it on the 19" LCD monitor.

Poonam-Thanks for dropping by. Reviews, even by highly professional reviewers are usually in accordance with their personal likes and dislikes. These likes and dislikes of us all make what we,more wordily, call perspectives.
Response is what I would call the last para of my post.

Oreen-Lets tell this to the movie-wallahs, and let them give the credit to me that you went. You didnt tell your response though.

Avna-Yes, its cute. Just take them along. You would all love it. Anomalies and illogical things should not be thought over. Take your heart along and leave the brain at home.
