Once Bitten, Twice Phooled

Why do we go to watch horror movies? We spend money to get scared. Life is so scary anyways.

Well, I was a fool to go watch ‘Phoonk’ on the instigation of little baby devil KiranG and she kept clinging to me all through the movie. Then, on the instigation of my personal devil Mahesh, I went to watch ‘1920’ and I kept clinging to him all through the movie. Now, if you commit a mistake once, you are forgiven, arnet you? Anjaan baccha samjh ke… But when you commit the same mistake twice, you are labeled as a Phool. That’s what M calls me. Well, the fool is back after watching the movie 1920 (This post was written a few days back and the fool forgot to post it). Both ‘Phoonk’ and ‘1920’ have many common points. Both talk about a soul sauntering inside a human body. Both talk about an atheist protagonist who, in the end, takes the shelter of God and exorcises his loved one of the devil’s designs. The devil works overtime in the form of a bad soul inside the loved one’s body. I won’t say which one I eiwwed better because I have not gotten over many scenes yet. While ‘Phoonk’ was monotonous in its angles, cinematography and was very average- going by RGV’s previous crime record; ‘1920’ was rich in wow scenes shot nicely in Europe, and the capturing of the period mood of the 1920s. Not that 1920s featured much in the movie anyways, except the heroine’s dresses and gloves and parasols. She is a cute one. The girl who played Gayatri (another pic here) resemebled Majaz to such an extent that I kept on boring into Mahesh’s ears by whispering , “I gotta IM her to ask her if she has acted in a movie.”

Phool, Phool, Phool.

I wont argue on the theme, if it encourages superstition, if it supports exorcism, if it supports the presence of after-life, if it ….

Coming back home at 1.45 a.m. on wide, lonely roads with loud music blaring in the car (that is my devil's favorite way to unwind), me and Mahesh as logical beings concluded that

one, The power of love can do anything-yes that makes the two of us, Phools.

And two, that one must believe that Supreme Power called God at all times. That again makes it the two of us-totally incorrigible believer-Phools.

Disclaimer-This post is not an effort to shake the atheists’ lack of faith. I respect their choice while I defend the right of believers to maintain their own faith. As you can see, this post is about Phools alias flowers.

according to some, u two surely are 'fools' to think that one 'must' always believe in God and that it is a supreme power. ;p

I'd never watch a scary movie, i swear to god! Nah, not even if the devil itself were talking me into it. No friggin way. I watched one back in teen years and it still stays with me. Just can't handle 'em. Have enough tragedy in real life i guess. :D

u ARE indeed a phool btw for forgetting to post and now i gotta check out this gayatri character. :))))

The diplomatic disclaimer certainly shows that you are indeed 'clever' and not a 'flower' by not trying to hurt the sentiments of readers. :D

ha so the phools admit to their phoolery....

Go or no God Devil or no Devil what amazes me is the kind of movies you actually sit through...

Must grant it to you,, you got loads of patience for Bollywood.

i hadnt even heard of 1920! god! i am so outta touch with times!!

while i think we have officially given up on RGV, catching 1920 maybe a good idea!

yes, faith in supreme power is so so important! i have it too!

what irks me is the portrayal that if you dont believe you will be forced to by some form of punishment or suffering!

which is ridiculous considering God is all forgiving, nahi?! :)

phool khile hai gulshan gulshan!! :D

cheers!

i love watching horror movies...
the real psychological kind of horror...than the gory bloody drama.

hehe

Believe it or not, i find such movies extremely hillarious
:)
Knowing that there is a stupid phool under all those layers of hideous makeup, just makes me laugh my head off.
:)

I, think that being an agnostic helps here
:)
After all, if I'm not inclined towards believing that there's a God, why would I get palpitations watching some bhoot or bhootni?
:)
Lol

thank you for the warning...was going for '1920'on DVD. Well, if it is becoming a 'phool' like you, then I wouldd definitely want to become one...lol

Roo-We have had a long talk on this GOD issue, but why do you still swear by GOD? Are you a Phool too?

Parry-Now you know me...

Pinku-Brutus, you think I am a phool? :(( I thunk so...

KiranG-Baby devil, you are here again? Shoo....shoo...

Ritu-How far will you go for the sake of horrors?

Abha-Yeah, like a headmaster roaming about with a cane to punish all those erring children? God is sure not like that.

Manasa-Frustrations? I was scared..

Gaz-I still remember your reaction to the Billi-scene. BOOOOO

RiverSoul-I had no time to laugh, I was scared. Enjoy agnosticism, it is the in thing.

Kiran-Yeah, prior to becoming a Phool, there is the stage when you are shit-scared. Pardon the rude expression, but that explains it best, hehe.

SS-Thanks for the info. But I was a Phool enough to go watch them second-third day of their release. Hun kee ho sakda...

IHM-That makes the two of us, hehe.

HDWK-Yeah, now me too.

no comments, no comments...
but am glad god has some takers... nehi toe he/she would have become insecure...
and we all know what insecurity does to ppl and gods alike...

MNS dekh lo, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike dekh lo, Amra Bangali dekh lo... saare insecure races have to make an extra effort to be noticed...

now if gods get insecure and want our attention, who will save us?

i haven't watched these movies... maybe i will watch 1920 soon...

i see that u have quite a few atheists here, reading u...and loving it too...

Cinemas will be deserted if cine goers like you are not keen to watch every type of movies off and on.
Sooooo kind of you to keep Roti-Rozi of Cinema walas.

Any how ghost are to remind us to trust in God and forget all evil spirits.
Ghosts and Devils themselves are afraid of GOD.

Posting becomes interesting with your disclaimer.

Nice sharing your experience here. Keep it up.

You have some interesting movies over there. :)

I cannot watch scary movies. They take root in my mind and all bets are off after that. Dan loves them though and he and Rach will often watch them together while I am watching Disney flicks in the other room or reading.

RGV's next movie's gonna be called 'Bhook'.

If one commits a mistake for the first time, it is contextual (that the situation or circumstances were such to lead to this); if it happens second time, it is misfortune; however, if it happens third time, then there is a pattern to it. So beware.
It will be interesting for you to explore why people watch horror movies, and why such movies become box office hits.

i said 'some' , mamp, some doesn't automatically include me :PPP

i could or could not be a part of it. our conversation was around me deciding whether i want to believe in it or not. perhaps i haven't made my decision yet. perhaps i've chosen to believe or chosen not to believe. my comment didnt reveal any of that ... or perhaps it did. :D hee hee.

Enough horror around to add some masala crap to our minds. MNS, Raj Thackeray, ABS, Sadhvi Pragya and so many others are doing the job pretty well....

this post about Phools alias flowers...ha ha ha...

Oreen-No, God is not insecure, He/She does not need takers. The movies might be about that issue, and even if I spent money to watch them, I might not agree with what they tried to project. Insecurity lies inside us, we are the ones giving bhao to MNS and Shiv Sena and other such outfits. Regarding atheists loving the blog; I love them too, hehehe.

Majaz-Yes, you agree now she does look like you, your mom voted for me. Darauna will never be watched, not at least in cinema.

Mama-As you can see, you gave birth to a very kind human being. Sari duniya da dhyan rakhidaa.

Philip-So dont I, but I still went. But I wont go.

Mandy-I dont think I would go there again too. Well, it was my first disclaimer ever, glad you liked it.

MI-Well versed? Chalo koi na, but I watched 1920 with you, clawing your arm. You obviously enjoyed the horror on the screen and the one sitting onto your left.

Z-Oh yes, Indian film industry is versatile. One can spend a lifetime watching movies and yet not be finished with them. I wont watch any horror movie, period.

Sri-Bhook=Bhoot+Phoonk? Very logically, yes it would be.

Himalayan Adventurer-Yes, it would be an interesting study. Maybe I will take up a project on it soon.
BTW where are you, why arent you updating the blog?

Roo-Koi chakkar nahi. There is nothing implicit to my comment in response to yours. Chill.

Trailblazer-Yeah right. If we can buy that horror on TV every night, I was really a phool to go spend money on this one in the cinema.

Manish- :)
